My Short Biography

Not everyone peaks in their 20's. After college I was busy raising my kids and fulfilling my creative needs with home decor, kids projects and my annual birthday art project, till finally, I decided to follow my bliss.

I'm not a tortured artist. I do have chronic pain from arthritis and my art helps to keep my mind off the pain and fills my soul and life with beauty and creativity. I have a happy life, I love to laugh and try to bring a positive energy to all that I do. I hope that you can feel that energy in my art.

I have a BA from UMKC and am from a generation that had art once a week all thru school. I have chosen abstract expressionism because it moves me more than any other style. While I don't have an advanced art degree, my art is inspired by the giants like Kandinsky, Pollock and Rothko along with many lesser known, unknown and unsung artists and every piece of art I've seen at all the gallery shows and art fairs I've attended, graphic artists and children.

In 2012-13 I had a booth at San Jose's First Friday Art Walk

In 2013 I participated in the More the Merrier show and sale at the Art Arc.

In 2014 Installed 7 big works from my RED series, AD Women, Darker Angel, and some smaller works at CA Collective and Kinetic Wellness Chiropractic in south San Jose.

My art is a form of creative meditation for me and I hope for the viewer as well. I'm inspired by many things and I strive to let the materials, colors and the universal muse speak to me and then guide my hand.

Some of my 2D works contain many layers. Hopefully, this layering allows the viewer to enjoy the overall aesthetics of a piece, but creates a depth that draws you in and can allow you to experience the piece on a deeper level. Many of my works contain repeated elements that may not be obvious at first, but I believe, allow the subconscious to find order in what could be perceived as chaotic to some.

I know many want an artist to find a style and do iterations of that over and over...mostly I believe, so they can identify the artist's work at a glance. I will never fit that mold. I love series, exploring materials, techniques, styles, and colors. Sticking with one style, or medium, or even 2D only, would be as boring to me as only using the same 3 colors forever.

My 3D work is a combination of statement pieces mostly about the role of women and whimsical or comical weirdness from my mind that may defy explanation.

I work mostly with acrylic, spray paint and latex which are more suitable for the type of work I do than oils. Most of my pieces are sealed with an isolation coat of Golden Soft Gel brushed on, or Golden 800 with spray medium for sprayed coats and finished with a removable UV stabilized varnish. Some pieces are signed on the back, but all come with a letter of authenticity, containing conservation information.

My front yard is my studio, so my works are like little biological time capsules and may contain any or all of the following... pollen, little bugs, tree matter, dog hair, grass, dust and in a couple of rare cases...bird poo, (no extra charge).
